"Whoopknox was an absolute thrill to witness in action. Their precision and artistry were equally as brilliant as their energy and dedication to interpreting the music of our time and the combination of voice and percussion melded seamlessly. I look forward to Whoopknox's future programing within the new music sphere." ~ Justin Snyder, pianist
"Whoopknox blew me away! Incredible musicianship, great song selections, and an easy to work with ensemble. They were the perfect addition to our music series!" ~ Maggie Cocco, music director
Whoopknox is a Detroit-based new music ensemble co-founded by Jocelyn Zelasko, voice, and Thom Monks, percussion, with repertoire ranging from the highly-complex A Waltzer in the House (2003) by Milton Babbitt to the dramatic, yet playful, Jabberwocky (1993), by Susan Botti. Being two Detroiters who love new music and their city, they made it their mission to perform music that is hard knocks and stunningly beautiful, just like Detroit!
